Mall of the Emirates
Where shopping is just the beginning

Navigating the Gulf’s first super regional shopping and leisure destination.

Mall of the Emirates, a Majid Al Futtaim shopping mall, is world renowned for its indoor ski slope, two five-star hotels, and over 300 premium and luxury boutiques.

As it quickly grew to become one of the most popular destinations in the UAE, highly efficient wayfinding became an integral part of their recent expansion and refurbishment.

Ninth Space was asked to develop an intuitive wayfinding strategy and a functional yet aesthetically elegant signage design that would seamlessly work with the mall’s refurbishment upgrades. The underlying objective was to create a concept that can evolve and be updated without sacrificing the integrity of the mall’s overall look and feel.

Wayfinding strategy and signage that intuitively guides visitors without imposing on the mall experience.

Our signage strategy was carefully crafted to contrast the iconic vaulted domes and lavish marble floors that define the mall’s classic style and yet complement the more subtle and contemporary refurbishment upgrades in the new areas of the mall.

Using sleek, black painted glass and rear illuminated text, we designed a concept that was linear and super slim – clearly legible, but not oversized.

In order to avoid making the mall’s exterior appear congested and overbearing, our strategy also defined the most effective, best-viewed locations for external branded signage.

The results of our work have now become the brand standards for all Majid Al Futtaim shopping malls, which have been rolled out across all their shopping malls regionally.
